Alacrify is a small digital marketing and web application development agency based in Dorchester, with a portfolio of clients across the UK. We specialise in creating flexible online solutions for businesses in the private and tertiary (volunteer and charity) sectors, and offer website building, coding development, and consultancy and training services. We provide a variety of support services, including copywriting, image processing and social media marketing.

The successful candidate will become part of a close-knit team, working collaboratively on a broad range of design, development and technical support services for our clients. All projects are bespoke to each client and comprise PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, HTML and CSS. Creativity, clarity and efficiency are key to our approach to our work.

We are happy to offer a Part Time or Full Time contract, depending on the skills and suitability of the candidate. The post will be based in our office in Dorchester. Remote working is not an option. We can be flexible with timings however.

There will be a 3 month probationary period at the start of the contract. Annual leave is 28 days pro rata plus bank holidays.

Overall purpose of the job:

To assist with the development and support of online services for our clients. This can include designing and building brochure websites, and continue right through to developing bespoke administration solutions.  This may also include assisting with scoping and designing projects as appropriate.

To assist with the creation and support of web, admin and marketing solutions for our clients, through the development of our proprietary codebase and possible integration with, and use of, other web based services.

To support and develop internal projects that Alacrify may initiate from time to time.

To assist with the continual improvement of technical services to our clients.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  1. To assist with the development of services to our clients through working on various aspects of the projects that we deliver.
    • This role’s focus is on coding, but may involve a blend of tasks including copywriting, image preparation, testing, quality control, and service management, along with client training, support and advice through the course of a project.
  2. To assist with the maintenance of client websites through the Content Management Systems that we build, including copywriting and image preparation for use on the internet.
    • This includes providing admin and quality control services to incorporate client copy and artwork in a suitable form for uploading to their website. It relies on a sound understanding of Search Engine Optimisation and technical performance, which will be provided if needed as part of the on-the-job training.
  3. To assist with the creation and support of web, admin and marketing solutions for our clients, through the development of our proprietary codebase and possible integration with, and use of, other web based services.
    • This will ultimately include working in PHP, MySQL, JavaScript/JQuery, HTML and CSS to develop, deploy and maintain web solutions and web sites for our clients. We will provide mentoring and guidance to support this activity as needed.
  4. To work alongside James and Jon in the design and delivery of social media services on behalf of our clients, and also for Alacrify.
    • To prepare information for use on social media platforms for clients and Alacrify alongside James and Jon. Sourcing artwork and preparing text for direct use on social media platforms, plus using scheduling tools developed by Alacrify and others to pre-load marketing campaign messages for clients and Alacrify.
    • To liaise with clients to collate information for use on the campaigns.
  5. To support and develop internal projects that Alacrify may initiate from time to time.
    • To support internal projects (like through administrative, marketing and code development activities, that will increase the services offered and revenue earned from these “side-projects”.
  6. To assist with the continual improvement of technical services to our clients.
    • To help monitor and maintain the hosting and domain registration services we use and provide, including monitoring disk usage, service updates, renewals, configuration and record-keeping.            

Person Specification

The candidate must provide evidence of the essential skills below, but we will consider applications from candidates who are just starting out in the industry.


Knowledge & skills



  • Experience in coding with PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, CSS and HTML.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to fine detail.
  • Excellent written and spoken English. Attention to grammar and spelling is essential.
  • Experience of handling phone calls and emails in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Confident in the use of Microsoft Office; specifically Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Ability to communicate appropriately to different people; appreciating their level of expertise and anxiety and technical knowledge, and responding in a suitable manner.
  • Ability to handle challenging interactions with clients who may be concerned about the services provided.
  • Experience of using social media; particularly Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
  • Proven commitment to working as part of a team.
  • Experience of managing own work priorities and setting goals.
  • Ability to work within the security and privacy standards of the business.
  • Understanding of the need for client confidentiality and privacy regarding their business, communications and data. Awareness of the impact and requirements of Non-Disclosure Agreements.



  • Experience of using Adobe Photoshop (or equivalent) to manipulate photographic images; specifically cropping, resizing and preparing for web.
  • Experience of website content management systems.
  • Understanding of website technology and search engine optimisation.
  • Understanding of marketing principles and social media strategy.
  • General understanding of the nature of business, and an appreciation of the variety of different models and approaches in different sectors.
  • General understanding of data protection and security issues.
