The Client

David Noton is a renowned professional landscape and travel photographer based near Sherborne on the Somerset and Dorset border. His career has taken him around the world, producing an extensive collection of landscape, travel, commercial and commissioned photography.

His work has been published and exhibited internationally, with clients and professional relationships including well-known names such as Canon, Adobe, the National Trust and Royal Mail. Alongside his photography, David is also an author, writer, presenter and photography tutor.

With such a large and visually striking body of work, David needed an online presence where the photography itself could take centre stage.

The Project

Alacrify designed and developed an image-led photography website that would provide David with a professional platform to showcase his extensive portfolio.

The design needed to be deliberately understated. Rather than allowing unnecessary design elements to compete for attention, we created a clean and visually focused website where David's photography could do the talking. Large imagery and photography galleries give visitors the opportunity to explore his work and travel virtually through some of the incredible locations he has photographed around the world.

The website also provides space for David to showcase commissioned work, share more about his career and introduce some of the organisations and partners he has worked with.

As an image-heavy website, responsive website design was particularly important, ensuring David's photography could be presented effectively across desktop, tablet and mobile screens.

The Result

The finished website provides David Noton Photography with a visually engaging online portfolio built around the quality of the photography itself.

Visitors can explore galleries of landscape and travel photography, discover commissioned work and learn more about David and his career, all through a website designed to keep the imagery firmly at the centre of the experience.

It was also a particularly enjoyable project for the Alacrify team. Working with such an extensive collection of photography meant there was rarely a shortage of imagery to complement an idea or layout, if we had a particular image in mind, David usually had just the photograph for it.

The result is a website that feels less like a conventional business site and more like an online photography portfolio, allowing visitors to explore David's work and take a visual journey around the world.
