Outlook Freezing Issues – January 2026

22nd January 2026

We have had an issue in the office with Outlook Classic freezing when performing tasks such as replying to email or just simple operating of Outlook like trying to read emails.

It would appear there is an issue that relates to a Windows update that some users (including us) have recently installed. Uninstalling this update sorts out the freezing issue on Outlook.

You may have not even noticed that Windows installed this update but if you’re Outlook is freezing then take a read of the below.

Until a permanent fix is released to address this bug, affected users can work around it by uninstalling the KB5074109 update by:

Opening the Settings app, going to Windows Update > Update history > Uninstall updates, and clicking the "Uninstall" link next to "Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB5074109).

This fixed the issue for us in the office and hopefully may solve your issue whilst Microsoft investigate this and release a patch or a new update.
