For those that don’t know, Google reCAPTCHA is everyone’s favourite (sarcasm intended) addition to most contact forms and login pages you find on your website and other websites. These are the ‘I’m not a robot’ tick boxes, the ‘tick all the squares that have a bus’ and also sometimes the annoying character entries you have to copy. Whilst all of these can be annoying, they do serve a great purpose. The purpose is to stop bots scanning your website and filling out forms to send spam to your email and also to stop bots attempting to hack a login to a member’s area of your website (for example). Google reCAPTCHA isn’t 100% full proof as some users may know but it does do a pretty good job in catching a lot of the spam that you would otherwise receive.
Our current websites all run Google reCAPTCHA Version 2. There is now Google reCAPTCHA Version 3 available. What’s the difference? Unlike Version 2, reCAPTCHA Version 3 is invisible for website visitors. There are no challenges to solve. Instead, reCAPTCHA Version 3 continuously monitors each visitor's behaviour to determine whether it's a human or a bot. If you are a genuine user then this would eliminate the challenges whilst still retaining the spam prevention that it offers our websites.
We plan to put this in place for the start of 2024 for all NEW websites so going forward any new websites produced by Alacrify will have reCAPTCHA Version 3 installed. If you are an existing client then we can update the current version on your website for a small fee as this is a personal choice to upgrade or not.
