Cards and Colour

This week we have been continuing to work on the business cards and compliment slips for one of our clients.

Our initial designs came back from the printers far too dark, with a blue line appearing almost black - a real object lesson in the slippery nature of colour reproduction on different media. One blue on the screen, one blue on the client's rough version, another blue on each of our printers here and then a different blue again from the commerical printer's litho and digital printers.

All the way through we matched as closely as possible the client's original design, but the final product was significantly different again. To solve this tricky problem we matched the colour of the client's artwork to a Pantone colour and using Pantone's excellent ColourBridge system [that gives RGB and CMYK numbers for each of their colour swatches] we have managed to find a very very close match which will hopefully produce the desired results. When they return from the presses we'll post an update!
