What is Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)?

SEO is short for Search Engine Optimisation and is essentially something that is used by all major search engines. It is essentially to do with how these search engine list their search results and in what rank. Content such as text, images and even video are shown and ranked based on what the search engine considers to be must relevant to users depending on what they’ve searched. Optimising a website means that you are doing everything in your power to make the search engines rate your site highly for a given keyword, topic or phrase. The problem with this is that the goalposts keep moving. Search engines use things called 'algorithms' to work out which sites are most relevant for any given search term, and they're constantly refining them.
