Alacrify Ltd

Alacrify is twenty! Happy birthday to us!

Alacrify has grown into something amazing since it was founded twenty years ago. From seed-like beginnings at Jon’s kitchen table to coming of age in the tree-height studio space that we now call home, we started designing and building bespoke websites in 1997, and haven’t looked back. These days our creative process involves beautiful modern design, innovative technological solutions, intelligent business consultancy, and expert social media marketing. Our story is one of great work, great intention, great staff, and great clients.

Having had the privilege of working with hundreds of people over the years, we’ve absorbed this wealth of experience, and draw on it daily, making connections and sharing insights. As a small team of three we’re in demand, so we work on projects that we care about, and that we think can be most transformative to the people who come to us. We’re passionate about social responsibility and community, and we thrive on ideas and creativity.

We don’t advertise our own work very often, choosing to focus on supporting our clients’, but to mark our twentieth birthday, we’re thrilled to share twenty highlights of our current portfolio. With over 300 very diverse projects it was a tough choice, and these are presented in no particular order, but they all reflect our values-driven focus on thoughtfulness, care and inspiration.

Alacrify: Jon, James and Nicola

No.1 Association for Cognitive Analytic Therapy
our longest-standing colleagues

Jon started working with ACAT before setting up Alacrify, and enjoys their rewarding relationship to this day, providing design and maintenance of their website and bespoke payment system, administrative support, online training, event management, and design and printing of their professional journal. We continue to develop original online solutions as the requirements of the Association change over time.

No.2 f11 Photography Magazine
our newest and shiniest website

As one of Alacrify’s newest clients, f11 came with a need to split an existing website into two concerns; one for the promotion of internationally-renowned photographer David Noton, and the other for his global photography magazine, f11. Jon and James’s understanding of contemporary design aesthetics provides a stunning showcase for David’s extraordinary images, and has set a new design benchmark for Alacrify. The site also features an online shop, membership administration and a bespoke event management facility.

No.3 Bicilet
our technological marvel

Innovative online bike hire start-up Bicilet approached Alacrify in 2016 to launch their new European-wide bike hire business. Jon assisted with consultancy on the possible online business models and implementation methods, and designed an original and effective multi-currency website, backed by customised mapping, and setting a new technological benchmark for Alacrify along the way. Henry’s business has leapt from strength to strength, and Alacrify continues to provide ongoing development and marketing assistance.

No.4 Quintessential Europe
our most stylish friend

Quintessential came to us in 2009 in need of a simple website for a luxury B&B in the Cotswolds. Later becoming a collaboration between Alacrify and Quintessential, in 2016 we relaunched it as a definitive guide to truly fabulous places to stay across Europe, with Jon’s bespoke booking engine and beautiful web design, and Quintessential’s exclusive address book of some of the finest accommodation in Europe, as well as some of Alacrify’s highly targeted social media marketing.

No.5 Dorset County Show
our most-visited website

In its 175th year as Dorset Agricultural Society’s annual show, Alacrify is pleased to have provided the Show with website design and social media support for many years. The design has evolved with technology and event expectations, and it remains one of the most-visited websites in our portfolio. In 2017 we’re delighted to be Dorset County Show’s social media partner (gaining over 600,000 Twitter impressions in the weeks leading up to the Show), as well as one of their official Sponsors, and especially pleased to have DCS as one of our neighbours in the NFU building in Dorchester.

No.6 BioPortfolio and Sector Publishing Intelligence
a truly global business resource

Ten years ago, Alacrify completely rebuilt the world’s biggest biotech, healthcare and pharma-medical website, BioPortfolio. This included redesigning a global market research store and news publication and syndication engine. In 2015 Jon went into partnership with Peter of BioPortfolio, extending their scope to include all markets and business news. Between them these websites now offer over a third of a million market research reports for sale to a global audience. - -

No.7 IPP Global Print

Alacrify was commissioned to redesign and re-market IPP online in 2015. Our work involved creating a contemporary web design for this niche global print production and management specialist. We continue to provide SEO and marketing consultancy to ensure top listings on Google and other search engines for their services around the world.

No.8 Furleigh Estate
our blend of beautiful design and bespoke ecommerce

International award-winning Dorset vineyard Furleigh Estate approached Alacrify to rebuild their website in 2014. Since then this e-commerce website has facilitated the sale of many hundreds of cases of wine. We have recently added a bespoke booking engine for vineyard tour ticket sales and wine club membership services.

No.9 Home-Start West Dorset
supporting their work in the community

Home-Start West Dorset came to us for a new website when they were working from their base in Bridport in 2012.  The website has since evolved to reflect the changing nature of their work, as well as promoting their charitable activities and fundraising. Home-Start Renfrewshire approached us more recently to rebuild their website in the light of HSWD’s success. Home-Start are one of the many community organisations which we are happy to support as part of our socially engaged approach to business. -

No.10 Dorset Equine Vets
compassionate specialists who chime with our values

Alacrify redesigned and relaunched Dorset Equine Vets’ website several years ago. We have also provided advertising and brochure design services, and advice on Search Engine Optimisation. In 2017 we’ve updated the site in order to bring it up to current design and mobile-friendly responsiveness standards, and have provided brochure and print advertising design services too.

No.11 Faculty for the Psychology of Older People
we’re proud to support care and understanding

Alacrify has worked with this important faculty within the British Psychological Society for many years, creating and developing a website to allow psychologists working with older people to share best practice, insights and training opportunities across the UK. James has recently updated the site to reflect changes in the Faculty and their increasing role in setting standards of care in the NHS for people with dementia.

No.12 Green Union
contributing to sustainability and bringing people together

Alacrify’s rebuild of the highly successful website for ethical and sustainable weddings, Green Union, completely updated the look and feel of this lovely business. Our redesign included contemporary graphic design and typography, along with a friendly and accessible presentation of Rosie’s original and engaging content, all underpinned with a personalised content management system to make it really easy to maintain. Their ethical agenda chimes strongly with our own approach to business.

No.13 Hashtag Directory, Thursday Thanks and Cake Club Hour
our Twitter takeover

We spend a lot of time on social media successfully promoting our clients’ businesses, but James manages to squeeze in an hour here and there to curate his own hashtags: @ThursdayThank #ThursdayThanks #ThankyouThursday (all day Thursdays), where people are encouraged to thank someone who has helped them; @CakeClubHour #CakeClubHour (Fridays 3-4pm), where all are welcome to grab a cake and talk business; Hashtag Directory, the number one stop for all things Twitter. Jon and Nicola are also regular contributors to #DorsetHour, tweeting about our local community.

No.14 C G Fry & Son
helping with building a future and finding a home

This is our seventh year of working with award-winning Dorset housebuilder, C G Fry & Son. We took on the brief to redesign their website to market their services and house sales across the many housing developments they run in the South West of England. Our design and SEO has put their website into Google’s top twenty for over five years for houses for sale in Dorchester and beyond. We’ve also run Google Adwords campaigns and seen the site deliver dozens of house sales since we’ve been involved with this excellent business.

No.15 Try This
enabling people to try something new

Try This Dorchester came to us this year to discuss reframing and rebranding their innovative project, in which people are encouraged to learn a new hobby or skill. Jon and Nicola held lively discussions with this large and enthusiastic team, and designed a new website and print media for them in a friendly, accessible and contemporary style. The booking engine is being coded as we speak, in time for the launch in early Autumn, when the team will be following our social media advice. We were mindful of (and excited about) the great potential of this project beyond Dorchester, and have designed the site to extend easily to other towns. Watch this space!

No.16 Dorchester Literary Festival
adding our marketing know-how to this community festival

Following Dorchester Literary Festival’s first year in 2015, Janet and Paul approached Alacrify in need of a more professional and flexible website to promote the event. Jon also offered to improve DLF’s online presence (particularly via Twitter) as a form of sponsorship. In 2016 we blended a third party ticketing system with the newly designed site, and in 2017 we have implemented a simple and highly effective custom ticketing system of our own to manage this year’s events. Feedback on the site and its new payment engine has been extremely positive, and ticket sales are strong, in part through the increased social media exposure we have been able to give to this community event.

No.17 Angelus Violin Repairs
our tiny but perfectly formed craftsman business website

This remarkable little two-page website for skilled violin restorer and repairer, Michael, has delivered business to his door since it was launched in 2016. Showcasing his specialist services and the occasional exceptional instrument for sale, it has drawn visitors and interest from all over the South Coast of England where he’s based. Small but perfectly formed, this site’s extraordinary performance exemplifies our understanding of successful niche marketing.

No.18 Devonshire and Dorset Regimental Association
we’re proud to work with service personnel

The Association for our local Army Regiment commissioned Alacrify in 2014. We have worked with them to develop a website that allows members to keep in touch with Regimental news and events and share information with one another in a private members-only part of the site. It’s been entirely run by the Association administration team themselves, almost without any help needed from us, since the site was launched. The success of this site is testament to the camaraderie and support that the Regiment continues to provide, long after members cease active service.

No.19 Green Jersey Cycling
facilitating this unique combination of travelogue and business

This sparky and engaging cycle tour business runs cycle touring holidays all over France, and our remit was to provide a website that would showcase their adventures to cycling enthusiasts across the UK and beyond.
