Topiary Photography

As part of a major new piece of work that we've been commissioned to do for Bellamont Topiary we needed to take a whole series of photographs of the fabulous shrubs that they grow.

Late last week I finally managed to get over for an early and a late photography session to capture some images of the spheres, cubes, cones, pyramids, spirals and other shapes that they grow.Although we made a relatively good start in the morning, the light was just too fierce by about 10am and ambient glare became a problem when shooting the plants at any distance.

By the time I returned for a couple of hours in the twilight though it was perfect. Honey-gold sunlight across the green foliage and a deep azure sky above. [We're now using one of the photos as the image on our site ... here

Set in the Bride Valley near Abbotsbury the topiary nursery is a real wonder to see. The amazing living sculptures creep over the hillside in even ranks looking like a sort of shrub cityscape with dramatic architectural forms set out regular patterns.

Our next task is to turn these photos into a glossy brochure and matching website which, with such beautiful subjects, should be a real pleasure to create.
