1st ArtWey Open Studios in Weymouth and Portland

Every weekend in September 2009 Weymouth & Portland artists open their studios for the public to visit. It is a rare opportunity to meet visual artists such as painters, sculptors and potters in their natural environment! Visitors can look at their work, talk to the creators and maybe even have a go at it themselves. They can buy or commission artworks and find out about future events such as exhibitions and workshops. The Weymouth Museum at Brewers Quay is hosting an exhibition of work b...

25th Bed and Breakfast Website Rebranding

Today we launched a new incarnation of the website for one of West Dorset's loveliest Bed and Breakfasts - Wooden Cabbage. In order to build on the response rate from visits to the website we proposed a redesign earlier this year and put together a series of visuals to illustrate potential new approaches to the design. Over the summer we have been compiling artwork and text with the owners to create a lovely website, showing off the fabulous B&B to its fullest potential. We have assist...

23rd Submitting Websites to Search Engines

This week we have been making sure we're getting the most exposure for all our clients' websites and have started to resubmit their site information to four of the major search engines: Google, Yahoo!, Bing and Ask Jeeves. To achieve this we have updated (and in some cases created) new XML sitemaps for the sites which Google, Bing and Ask Jeeves can then use to find all the pages in the site really easily. The format for these sitemaps is really simple; <urlset xmlns="http://w...

In addition to the recruitment of new staff over the summer, we have been looking to expand Alacrify's portfolio of services too. We are also in the process of applying to become registrars of .uk domains through Nominet too. Two things have prompted this decision. Firstly t...

15th Managing Business Growth

The challenges of growing as a company have been occupying my mind over the past few weeks. Since we decided to recruit staff to cope with our expanding portfolio of work and clients I've been spending my time juggling the complex demands of inducting and training Pete and Stefan, planning work schedules, sorting out the extra admin that employment brings, and doing work too. I suspect that this is always the case for businesses in our position. Certainly other friends a...

This week Stefan's been working his way around sever...

3rd Using our New Micro CMS - Client Recommendations

Meriel Thurstan is a botanical artist who works with the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens at Heligan as a teacher and author. This year we have developed two new websites for her, www.swsba.org.uk and www.merielthurstan.co.uk  As part of the development we have provided our new Micro CMS (Content Management System) on several pages on these sites to allow Meriel to maintain the page content herself. This is her story... I came fairly late in life to the idea of a website, and was complet...
