Diary for August 2009
27th Bridport Open Studios Website Live
Today the website we created for Bridport Open Studios had the final pieces of the jigsaw added to it before the big event this coming weekend! This is a major achievement for us and ArtSeeker who have collaborated together to create this website. Featuring over 120 artists from in and around Bridport, the open studios is an annual event over the August Bank Holiday in which artists open up their studios to the public for a brilliant exhibition of their work. The event and website is featu...
24th Picking up the Reins
Following last week's horrible stomach bug I am now picking up the reins again, and starting to deal with the mountain of emails that accumulated while I was off. Having lost over a stone in weight I'm going to have to be careful not to overdo it in these first few days as I've not got the fitness and strength to work long days to catch up with everything. Key on my list of priorities are the websites for ArtWey and Bridport Open Studios. Bridport Open Studios takes place over the August Bank H...
20th Out of Action
This week I've been knocked for six by a really nasty stomach bug. Hopefully I'll be back in harness again after the weekend....
14th New Starter - Peter Rickard
On Monday Peter Rickard started work for Alacrify on a three month contract as a trainee web developer for the company. Coming straight from college his ambition to work his way into the web design industry fitted perfectly with our goals to grow the business and at the same time to give opportunities to other people for personal development and training within this industry. Pete's design background and experience in photography give him an eye for good design ideas and an understanding of t...
12th Introducing Charley and Our New Micro CMS
A couple of weeks ago I mentioned that we've been working on a Micro CMS system which allows customers with brochure websites to maintain content on their own sites for themselves. This week saw the new system go live. The idea for this super lightweight maintenance option came from the fact that in almost every case, customers with brochure websites (which are by and large mostly full of static information), normally would like to have the means to update text and images on at least one ...
7th A Week of Change
This week has been another milestone in the growth of Alacrify. As I've mentioned elsewhere on this site, Alacrify has now moved into a new phase of growth and development this summer. This week Bill Crumbleholme left Alacrify to run his new ArtSeeker company with his wife Diane. This has been a long-standing project that he and I have worked on throughout Bill's time at Alacrify and finally this Summer we reached a point where it could take wings as a separate business. Bill's longstanding in...
4th The Kindness of Strangers
As is so often the case it never rains, but it pours! While we are going through the upheavals of this current period of growth as a business, there's been a huge increase in every-day work from our clients. This has led to some difficult prioritisation decisions - including "to sleep or not to sleep" - to make sure everything is done properly and in good time. Thankfully we've been admirably supported by many people as everything is sorted out in preparation for this new phase of Alacrify's de...
